About

Phillip Clarke MSc BA (Open) MCIEH CEnvH CMIOSH PIEMA

I started EHS Insights and associated blog and other social media because I want to give something back to the community I work in. I was given an opportunity; I was given encouragement; I was given guidance. I want to give something back. This is my attempt!

EHS Insights will cover the areas of:

Environmental Health
Health and Safety
Food Safety
Sustainability
Fire Safety
Environment

As a H&S/Environmental Health Professional, one covers a wide range of areas including H&S, Food Safety, Fire Safety, Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Business Continuity. A good H&S/EH Professional should be able to be able to advise in a pragmatic risk based approach. EHS Insights and associated bog/social media will help fellow professionals in these areas. It will also give careers guidance, inspiration from fellow H&S/EH professionals, and also a wider perspective with people outside our compliance role.

My career in this field commenced as an Environmental Health Technician in the British Army. Since leaving the Army I have worked in a number of areas and am now the Head of Health and Safety at a large organisation with over 16,000 employees.

I do have a few ‘post-nominals’ that reflect my background and interests:

MCIEH CEnvH CMIOSH PIEMA

And I hold a few qualifications including MSc Environmental and Public Health, BA (Open) in History and Politics, and HND in Environmental and Occupational Health. I am a Lead Auditor for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001. In addition, I have many qualifications covering many areas and aspects of my subject matter expertise. I was on the IOSH Council, elected by fellow members for one three-year term; I decided not to stand again so I could focus on my ‘day job’.
